Mother’s Day message

To all the Moms out there (with heart-felt thanks to mine and Dave’s), may your day be fragrant and full of flowers!

Yesterday Today and Tomorrow plant lining a walkway - Jhb, SA

These quotes are especially for you all:

“If I had a single flower for every time I think about you, I could walk forever in my garden.” – Attributed to Claudia Ghandi

“Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” – Elizabeth Stone

And two more to take the pressure off . . .

“There is no way to be a perfect mother, and a million ways to be a good one” – Jill Churchill

“Your responsibility as a parent is not as great as you might imagine. You need not supply the world with the next conqueror of disease or major motion-picture star. If your child simply grows up to be someone who does not use the word “collectible” as a noun, you can consider yourself an unqualified success.” – Fran Lebowitz, “Parental Guidance,” Social Studies, 1981

Although I’m not a mother in the full sense of the word, I love my stepchildren dearly – sincere thanks to them for the countless blessings they bestow on my life 🙂

Last but not least, because the four-legged members of our family matter too, here’s a special mention for the youngest, who turns 1 today: “Happy birthday, Quest, you handsome hound!”

QUEST - May 2011

Bones are on the way, boy 😀

    Lovely sentiments, Naomi!

I’m with you . . . I’m a wonderful aunt and caretaker of our four legged brethen, but not a mom! I did call my mom this morning for a lovely chat. 😀

Thank you. The heart walking around outside the body pretty much hits the nail on the head!

It’s not a surprise that your stepchildren bestow countless blessings. It’s called mirroring, Naomi!

Look at that Quest! I can just smell his doginess right behind that handsome ear.

    • Naomi says:

Oh, Amy, you are too kind 🙂 Michael & Terri-Lee are truly special in themselves, but I treasure your generosity of spirit all the same.

Right on about Quest’s dogginess smell 😀 As for those ears, they were so large on his head when he was younger that a friend said he looked like an African wild dog!

  5. Cindy says:

Lucky you are to have nice step-children, step-parenting is not for sissies.

    • Naomi says:

Perfectly true, Cindy, on all counts. I reckon the latter applies to all parenting, for that matter, so hats off to the lot of you 😀

  6. Shame on me, Naomi, for not visiting you more often! It suddenly occured to me that I had not heard from you lately, and then I realize that I had never subscribed! That has been remedied. Guess what? I got a new camera! I invite you to check out some of my latest blog posts to see if you can tell the difference between point and shoot and DSLR! The story of how I got the camera is found here:

Most of the photos that appear after that post are with the new camera.

Blessings to you and Happy Mother’s Day (a couple of days late!) to you as well – the “steps” and the four-legged children have a great Mom!

    • Naomi says:

Shame on ME, Paula! You and your photography have been in my thoughts, but things have been a bit upside down, so apologies for not visiting YOUR blog for a while. Congrats on the new camera – what great news – I shall be over shortly to read all about it!

Blessings back to you and I hope your Mother’s Day was wonderful, just as you deserve I’ve no doubt 🙂

  7. Happy Birthday Quest!!

  8. I’m pretty sure I gave you the wrong links to my new camera story. Just in case, here are a couple that my addlepated brain thinks are right. . .

There are others in there too, but I can’t find them right now – I do get a bit better with each set, though! At least I think I do. . .

  9. Tokeloshe says:

    Oh he is beautiful!

  10. Tammy McLeod says:

Quest is such a lovely dog. And I think you approach mothering in a very healthy manner!

  11. Okay…so I am in love with Quest – he’s gorgeous! 😀 xx
